St Stephen’s, a primary school in Newham, has withdrawn plans to ban the
hijab for under eights. A petition against the school’s directive attracted
19,000 signatures.
The chair of governors has apologised and resigned from his post.
The motivates given for the ban were safety and to aid integration into
British society.
