Dimarli Morrison-Facer looks back at Ryman Division On North side Romford at the weekend…

Romford slipped to their third defeat in their last six games despite taking the lead, after they lost 2-1 to Dereham Town at Ship Lane.

Romford began the game with real intent and produced some wonderful football in the early stages.

With just seven minutes on the clock, Paul Martin’s Boro took the lead through midfielder Jamie Dicks, after some neat passing and a clever one-two with Chris Taylor – Dick’s fired home from 30-yards.

Buoyed by the goal, Romford continued to pile on the pressure with Dicks and James Ishmail both going close for the hosts.

With a number of half chances created and not taken, Romford began to show some nerves and in the 34 minute of the game, Dereham equalised.

Missed chances

Matthew Cook sent a long ball into the Romford box, which was diverted by the blustery conditions and found its way under the crossbar of Boro’s goalkeeper Michael Gooch.

Romford’s goal was breached again seven minutes later, after Ryan Crisp’s half volley found the target following a great through-ball by Ryhs Logon.

Nevertheless, Romford began the second half well and immediately went close, after Chris Taylors’ left foot effort whistled just wide of Dereham’s goal.

However, Dereham still looked dangerous after Gooch’s miscued goal kick fell to their forward. His effort looked goal bound, but Gooch’s superb reflexes stopped the ball point blank to keep Romford in the game.

Both sides continued to go close but after some resolute defending, Dereham took a league double over Romford and three vital points back to Norfolk as they move up to eighth.
