Samuelsen Aims High

The young Norwegian starlet has been in impressive form for West Ham U21’s, as Ole Alexander Saue reports

West Ham could be welcoming another Academy graduate into the senior ranks with Martin Samuelsen saying he’ll be striving to make the step up.

The 18-year-old has scored four goals since his arrival in July, and is looking to step up to join Slaven Bilic’s high flying first team.

Samuelsen said, “If I continue like this, do good in training, keep scoring goals and impressing for the reserves, I’m sure I’ll get the chance for the first team.”

As well as playing a key role for the U21’s, Samuelsen is training with the first team each day.

Played Well

Terry Westley’s U-21s side has only won only one of the seven games so far this season, a 4-0 won over Wolves, but Samuelsen is staying positive about the side.

“We’ve played well in all our matches, but we’ve struggled [with] scoring and have conceded too many. Against Wolves we converted our chances and were very solid in defence.”

Man of the match

Last week, Samuelsen was the star man as The Hammers beat Wolverhampton 4-0 at Rush Green.

The winger was awarded two penalties, and scored one himself, as the east London side won their first game of the season.

“In the first situation I got a touch after receiving a pass and got fouled, Samuelsen told Rising East.

“The second penalty came after a solo raid from our own half. I dribbled past a couple of players, made a turn, and got fouled in the box. I took the penalty myself and hit it hard in the centre of the goal.”

Samuelsen will hope to keep impressing as the West Ham youngsters face Fulham at the Boleyn Ground this Monday.
