Canada Square: commuters have only just started to trickle off the Jubilee Line and DLR. Some are armed with briefcases, some with newspapers, and nearly all are glued to their phones.

Reuter’s Plaza: the coffee cart line has started to grow as bankers and brokers wait for a shot of caffeine – sometimes accompanied by an intake of nicotine.

Jubilee Place Shopping Centre: the shopping mall is nearing chaos as late comers try to push through the crush of coffee addicts needing their fix.

Bellmouth Passage: with the morning rush nearly over, the early birds venture off the tramlines to grab a fag and a second latte before meandering back inside.
