Stern Test For UEL

UEL Badminton are back in action again against Queen Mary 2nd team at Redbridge Sports Centre. George Geaves reports.

UEL will be looking to continue their good form after last week’s dramatic cup win over SOAS. It has been three weeks since UEL last played in the league, a game in which they narrowly lost to Imperial Medics 4th.

League Focus

Captain Ali Chin has repeatedly said that the league is the priority this season, so this game is vitally important for the East Londoners as they must kick-start their campaign.

Sean Wilson lost his first game of the season last time out and will be looking to bounce back to guarantee them two points. Wilson, 19, lost in a close encounter against SOAS’ first’s singles player. He can take solace from the fact that the set he won in this game was the decisive one overall when the final scores were calculated.

Lineup

There will be a rejig in UEL’s line up for this game as Josh Teoh will partner Chin and George Geaves will partner Marco Eng. Geaves and Teoh struggled for fluency in last week’s game, so there will be a shake-up in line-up for the coming fixture.

Teoh will go back to partnering Chin as they are familiar with each other’s game having played together for their final year. Eng and Geaves are yet to partner each other in a competitive fixture so only time will tell if they are effective together.

Opposition

Queen Mary 2nd sit fourth, one place above UEL in the table. Queen Mary’s last outing was two weeks ago when they were comprehensively beaten 6-2 by City University 1st team. The hosts are clearly in a relegation battle and will be looking to get their league campaign up and running by beating UEL.

This matchup will be key for the season as UEL are determined to climb away from danger against a side that they can beat if they perform at their best.
