The Wonder Of Winter

Don't just sit there chilling out on the couch. Get out and embrace the big freeze that's coming our way

This year the UK will face the heaviest snowfall in years, according to forecasters. Get ready for sub-zero temperatures and a white Christmas to follow.

When the days become shorter and the temperature drops lower, it is human nature to stay indoors in the comfort of our heated homes. But this winter, let’s get out of our comfort zone, wrap up warm and have some fun in the freezing air.

Did you know that our body temperature tends to drop when we go outdoors during cold winter days? Therefore when you start to rub your hands hoping to stay warm and begin to shiver underneath layers of clothes, please note that your body is using a considerable amount of energy to warm and humidify the air you breathe. In other words, putting on your hat, gloves and scarf, and going out into the cold, creates the ideal opportunity to burn more calories!

Not sure where to go? Try escaping the city hustle by visiting the Mudchute Park and Farm in the Isle of Dogs. With plenty of snow in prospect, you could have a fun day tobogganing with friends and family.

“It’s a nice place to spend a few hours and for kids to get some hands on with the animals. Gorgeous in the snow and some prime tobogganing terrain!’’, says Holly, a local resident.

Parks like Greenwich are also a great place to visit. Walking all the way to the top for an amazing city view will definitely increase your heart rate, make you work your lower body, and strengthen your legs.

Whatever you do this winter, make sure you enjoy some time outdoors!
