The Worst Thing Is Having A Bad Hair Day – No Way!

Schaz Halfaoui warns that Muslim women are threatened by something much worse.

It’s every girl’s nightmare to have her perfectly curled locks drenched by the nasty rain or destroyed by the wind. And sometimes there’s no obvious reason – whatever you do, you just can’t get it to look the way you want it to. But for Muslim women, it’s not just bad hair we dread. Even worse is a bad hijab day.

Every hijabi suffers a mini heart attack when her scarf looks lopsided or out of proportion, especially when the pin falls out and her hair starts slipping out from the side. ‘Oh my!’ she will scream. ‘All my Muslim brothers will see my hair now.’

But our biggest enemy has to be the wind: viciously it blows your scarf away, giving you no chance to defend yourself.  In some cases, the headscarf actually flies off – how awkward is that? At least with a bad hair style you can slyly put your hair up without drawing any attention to yourself.

Another issue many Muslim girls suffer from is the ‘camel hump’ or the huge hair bun under the scarf. When that stubborn bun sticks out from underneath your scarf, making you look like you have a double head, that is a disaster.

Now tell me that having a bad hair day is worse than a bad scarf day – no chance.

And, Sisters, remember that the scarf is a challenging journey full of obstacles – be strong!

On this day the author is as perfectly composed as her hijab.
