Kwame Kufuor previews another showdown for Charlton against familiar West London opposition

League leaders Charlton return to action as they host fourth-placed Brentford at VCD Athletic today in the Professional Development League South 2.

The Addicks go into the game on the back of a 5-4 loss on penalties to Huddersfield Town which saw the South East Londoners crash out of the Premier League Cup. This put to an end a superb run of 17 games unbeaten games in all competitions for the Addicks.

Charlton will be looking to get back on track and do the league double on their London rivals after winning 2-1 away from home earlier on in the season. Both Frank Moussa and Josh Umerah will be aiming to repeat their performances from the last encounter and get on the scoresheet once again.

The teams had locked horns for a second time last month at the Valley where the Addicks were made to fight for another 2-1 victory. Simon Clark’s side conceded first via a second-half penalty, scored by Brentford’s Jan Holldack. However goals from Mikhail Kennedy and Cristian Ceballos were enough to see Charlton through.

Brentford will want to secure their first win of 2016 after failing to do so in their last three games. The Bee’s last league fixture ended in a 1-1 draw to Ipswich, which sees them currently sit 14 points from top.

The Bees development squad coach Flemming Pedersen will hope his side can take advantage of the defeat the Addicks suffered against Huddersfield Town.

Simon Clark however, will be looking for his side to bounce back from the latest result and get back to winning ways in order to strengthen their attempt to win the League Two south title.
