Football Roundup: UEL back on the pitch

UEL Football 1st team

Moses Kaddu looks ahead to the UEL football sides returning to action after the winter break…

The University of East London 1st return to the British University and College sports action with an away trip to the University of Essex 1st. The firsts go into the fixture sitting top of the table and unbeaten in their last seven games, while the hosts Essex sit in third place. Both teams go into the match off wins before the Christmas break but the UEL 1sts should feel the more confident, as the last time both sides faced each other in October – UEL won 3-0.

UEL 2nds sit in third place and also travel to Essex to play against their 2nd team who are currently in fourth. UEL will look to increase the gap between the sides and put pressure on league leaders who sit with 14 point while UEL have 10. If results went UEL’s way, they could find themselves in joint second with Medway 1st and one point behind the leaders Middlesex 1st so a vital victory could be crucial for the seconds and their campaign towards promotion this season.

UEL’s 3rds side, host top of the table Essex 4ths which could see UEL out of the race for the league title if they fail to get three points. UEL 3rds will be going into this game high on confidence as they thumped the University of the Arts 1st team 6-0, last time out. Essex also come into the tie with an eye for goal after a 7-1 win against Queens Marys (Barts), with an exciting game in prospect at Hackney Marshes.

UEL’s 4ths will aim to get their season started in their first season in the league, as they play against Tottenham Hotspurs Foundations 2nds – in search of three points to climb up the table.

All UEL home fixtures will take place on Wednesday 3rd February at 2pm at Hackney Marshes, with their away game against Essex held at Essex University Sports Centre in Wivenhoe Park.
