UEL Aim For Cup Glory

Adonis Konstantinou looks ahead to UEL's last-16 cup match at home to Cardiff University.

The University of East London’s Men’s Football first team are aiming to qualify for the quarter finals of the BUCS Football 2017-2018 – Trophy Cup this Wednesday.

The Blues are facing Cardiff University for a place in the last-eight of the National Cup. The match will takes place at Hackney Marshes in a 14:00 kick-off.

The previous cup game for UEL was back in November against Oxford University, in a game which saw the side win the fixture by two goals to one. The match was memorable for one of UEL’s goal from inside their own half at the beginning of extra-time

UEL will be aiming to return back to winning ways after last week’s 3-2 home defeat at the hands of Surrey University, which dealt a massive blow to the side’s promotion bid.

Target

The boy’s in blue currently sit top of the  South Eastern 1A league table with 18 points from nine games. They have won five of their six matches at home so far this season and their main target is to secure their promotion back to the Premier Division of BUCS, whilst winning the cup.

On the other hand, Cardiff University are playing their first cup game of the season, as they are given a direct entry into the last-16 of the tournament.

Nevertheless, UEL will gain confidence knowing that Cardiff University are coming off the back of a league defeat, getting thrashed 4-1 by Exeter University last time out.

Cardiff will be looking to achieve something in the cup given they sit one point away from the last place in the BUCS Western 1A league.

However, UEL hold the upper hand, knowing that Cardiff have lost all three of their away games so far this season.
