Ole Saue talks to the UEL Sports Scholar about his recent successes…

University of East London Men’s basketball first team won 10 out of 10 games in Premier South division, with a goal difference of +396 – despite losing their decisive game in the final 8s against Durham.

UEL basketball scholar Lukas Volskis is not satisfied with that particular game, but reflects on an impressive campaign.

“We shot really badly, and I think it was the worst time to play for us, Volskis tells Rising East about the game against Durham, which they lost 59-76.

“It was the most important game over the year for us. We prepared for the game for four to five months, and then we just didn’t play well. It was a disappointing end to a decent season.”

But they must have done something must right. A team that wins every single match in their division must have had a good bunch of players as well as a determined coach.

“We had a good recruiting class, joined by the returning players we had last year,” he agrees. “We obviously have a good coach in J. P. Campbell, who takes priority in preparing us to compete in the league.”

To sum up their key to success, Volskis says: “We had a good group of players, a good coach, and good preparation.

The UEL player is impressed by his colleagues’ performances – and is also satisfied his own work.

“I did the best I could every game and on every training session,” he says.

“Winning 10 games in the Premier South and winning our first title is a big achievement for us and for UEL Sports in general.”

Volskis will be back for more basketball action on the SportsDock after the summer.
