UEL Go For The Double

Tekena Ibanichuka reports ahead of the Southern eastern 2B & 3B champions showdown in the cup final

Newly crowned champions UEL women’s 1sts and Kent women’s 1sts battle it out in the BUCS Southern Conference Cup final at the Hackney Marshes, with both in with a chance to win a league and cup double.

In what has been a truly ruthless yet remarkable season, winning will keep UEL’s 100%-winning streak intact. However the focus will be solely on lifting the cup trophy after the final whistle. University of Kent have also had a very successful league campaign having just secured the Southern Eastern 2B league.

UEL secured their place in the final in typical one-sided fashion with a crushing 8-2 win over Essex women’s 1st team in the semi finals whereas it was a much closer contest in the other semi final with Kent winning 5-4 on penalties against Surrey Women’s 1st team.

Team news

Having scored over 13 goals this year alone, forward Otesha Charles will again be key to UEL’s chances. Similarly key to Kent’s chances will be Chantelle Campbell who has been a revelation since coming into the side. As far as injuries are concerned, UEL will still be without Lilli Maple and Georgie Brophy as they recover from their injuries respectively.
