UEL Revisit Brunel Brawl

Conail Gallagher previews a highly anticipated fixture for the University of East London Men’s Basketball 1st team, as they face Brunel in a rescheduled fixture this Wednesday.

The teams are due to meet at the SportsDock at 1:30 to replay what was a fiery match back in November, which was abandoned in the third quarter following a fight.

In that fixture, UEL had appeared to have the game locked up as they led the visitors 48-33 in the third stanza, before an on-court fight broke out. UEL’s Matthew Ponce appeared to be struck in the face by a Brunel player before both benches invaded the court with plenty of pushing, shoving and fists flying, creating a hostile atmosphere for spectators – and an unplayable one for the participants after the referee ejected all the bench players.

UELSports have dealt with the matter and both teams have promised to be on their best behavior in order to create a free-flowing match this time around.

UEL are currently joint top of the BUCS South Premier League table with a record of 6-1. Oxford, who stand level with them, don’t play until next week which gives UEL a chance to move three points clear. Brunel will be looking to move up the table, as they currently sit in fourth place with three wins and three defeats.
