UEL vs University of Medway Cancelled

Ali Chin reports on UEL's cancelled match against the University of Medway

UEL were set to take on The University of Medway in the BUCS league but in a controversial turn of events, Medway pulled out causing the game to be cancelled.

UEL had prepared to put out a strong team with Azhar Syed and Sean Wilson as their singles players. Their doubles line-up would have consisted of Alvin Lee and Ali Chin as seed one and Sajat Rai and Joshua Teoh as the number two seeds.

With most of the players available this week Marco Eng, George Geaves, Tze Voon Lim and Irfan Lee were all left out of this weeks squad.

Eager to Perform

UEL were in good form entering this fixture as they were still undefeated  in the league, sitting second in the table behind Kings College on game difference. Whereas Medway sit second bottom in the league winning one out of three games but winning their last one 6-2 against London Southbank University.

Elsewhere UEL’s main rivals, Kings and LSE face each other. UEL will hope the game ends in a draw as that would give them an opportunity to top the table once they play their game in hand.

UEL should feel confident as they’ll be playing a team in the bottom half of the table, but this put a slight bit of pressure on them as they will have to play catch-up and can not afford to underestimate their opponents.

Next Week

With the game cancelled UEL will face Univeristy of Essex at Sportsdock in their next match in only their second home match of the season. This will be a must win game as UEL will want to continue putting pressure on the teams with in close distance to them
