Unrelenting Self-Promotion

Emma Brand is well impressed by Tinie Tempah’s self-aggrandisement (look it up).

East London rapper Tinie Tempah, real name Patrick Chukwuemeka Okogwu, is using his Twitter to promote new single Girls Like to his 1.82 million followers. He has also just used it to announce that his third album is on the way, saying “Nothing to lose. Everything to prove. ‪#Album3isOnTheWay.” Tinie also felt the need to point out “That’s not the title by the way”.

The bio on his Twitter account is also promoting the single by saying “‪#GirlsLike‪ feat. @zaralarsson OUT NOW”.

Other people have also been telling him how much they like his new single, e.g. “‪@TinieTempah new song is toooo catchy” – clearly all this promotion is doing what he wanted it to.

Tinie has a Snapchat that fans can follow, ‘tiniechat’ (only for small talk, obvs). It is constantly being updated with what he is doing, which means that his Snapchat story is always extremely long. Typically it will feature Tinie in recording studios and driving around London. Recently it was all about his trip to Africa. I mean, what else was there to do except update Snapchat and his Instagram: @Tiniegram ?

Instagram is where we see a slightly different type of self-promotion. Almost all the photos Tinie has posted in the last few weeks are captioned with ‪#GirlsLike – yes, the name of his single.

Tiniegram and Tiniechat are brilliant names for accounts, but his Twitter handle doesn’t follow the pattern.

If anyone needs a lesson in the art of self-promotion, Tinie is the man to go to.
