Oliver Rudgewick reports on exciting developments for the German Nations Cup team at the Olympic Stadium

Sebastian Vettel and Nico Hulkenberg will represent Team Germany in the Race of Champions at the Olympic Park next month.

This year will mark Vettel’s seventh appearance at the event, and he will be looking to add to the six championships he has already won in tandem with Michael Schumacher.

This will be the first time he has teamed up Hulkenburg who is making debut in the event.

Both drivers have had stunning motorsports careers, with Vettel lifting four Drivers’ World Championships in Formula One and Hulkenberg winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans this year.

The presence of both drivers is a big draw for the championship, which takes place at The Olympic Stadium on November 20th.

Vettel’s Formula One career began as a 19-year-old test driver with BMW Sauber in 2006. His first race came a year later at the United States Grand Prix. He finished eighth, making him the youngest driver to win a championship point at 19 years and 349 days, until Max Verstappen broke the record.

Vettel then became the youngest ever race winner in Formula One aged just 21 years and 74 days. His big breakthrough came with Red Bull, and his first World Championship in 2010.

He won his second championship in 2011, 122 points ahead of runner-up McLaren’s Jenson Button.

Vettel became the youngest ever Triple World Champion in 2012 aged just 25 after he finished sixth at the season ending race in Brazil. Beating Fernando Alonso by just three points.

Prestigious

Vettel’s last World Championship’s was in 2013, when he won 13 of the 20 races.

Nico Hulkenburg started his Formula One career at Williams F1 in 2010, before gaining his second seat in Formula One in 2012 at Force India. In 2014 Hulkenburg climbed up to ninth in the Driver’s Championship.

In 2015, Hulkenburg entered the famous Le Mans 24 hour race, and was a sensational success, steering his Porsche to victory in the prestigious blue-riband event.

Hulkenberg became the first active Formula One driver to take victory at Le Mans since Johnny Herbert managed the feat in 1991.
