Who’s Copying Whom?

February was London Fashion Week – three months ago now.

So if London fashionistas are worthy of the name (not just the models on the catwalk and the designers who put them there, but the whole troupe of people who see themselves as part of the fashion business), by now the man and woman in the street will have started to copy the trends pioneered by these industry people, right?

Put it another way, if this is wrong, and street people are NOT following fashion business people, then it’s worth asking what the latter are getting paid for, anyway (since the trends they represent don’t appear to be worthy of our time and money).

At Rising East, we thought we’d put the industry to the test. I commissioned a photographer, Kobe Ikram, to look at loads of fashion industry people strutting their London Fashion Week stuff (as shown in the gallery of Kobe’s photographs below). What I’d like you to do, Dear Reader, is to compare the way they look with what you’ve seen on the street recently, and decide for yourself whether the industry types are setting the trend, copying the trend, or missing it by a mile.
