Harvey Clare reports on how crucial the upcoming game against Crewe is for the Addicks…

Charlton Athletic will be keen to get back to winning ways as they face off against Under 18’s Professional Development League 2- North, Crewe Alexandra.

The Addicks go into the game a little subdued after letting a two-goal lead slip away and allow Millwall to come back and earn a 2-2 draw in last week’s match.

For the majority of the game, Charlton where the team on top – Steve Avory’s team where 2-0 up till the 61st minute thanks to goals from first year scholar Terrigue Anderson and man on form, Sulaiman Bah.

Charlton currently sit 1st place in the South league seven points clear of second place Watford, although the Watford side have three games in hand.

The Addicks can not afford to drop points anymore as Watford now have the opportunity to be league leaders if they win all three games in hand.

Watchful defense

Crewe currently sit 3rd place in the North league and have lost three of their past five matches. However, they have picked up their form again and have now won two games on the bounce against Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United.

Former first team manager and now academy manager, Dario Gradi, has been with the club since 1981 and urges his side to be technically excellent whilst aiming to play attractive passing. This philosophy was brought into the academy team so that their style of football ties up with how the first team play.

Although both teams have averaged 22 games this seasons, Saturday’s meeting will be the first of the season between both sides.

The Charlton defense will have to keep a close eye on strikers Owen Dale and Charlie Kirk as they have 20 goals between them.

With only six games of the season remaining the match against Crewe will be the penultimate home game of the season.

Kick off for the match will be at 11am, at Sparrows Lane.
