University of East London’s Women’s first team take on Canterbury Christ Church at Stodmarsh Road on Wednesday as they finally look to record some points on the board.

Jamie Smith’s team have not picked up a single point in the league this season and find themselves bottom of the BUCS football league Eastern division 2B. They will look for a change in fortune from last week’s 7-2 defeat to Middlesex University.

Canterbury CC haven’t dropped points all season, sitting top of the league with five wins from five. The Kent-based uni had a break last week and hope to keep their unbeaten record going.

UEL have played Canterbury twice already this season, conceding 16 goals and only scoring two.

Jamie has called for a ‘strong defensive performance’ as his team prepare to fight for survival in their run-in to the end of the season. Smith has a strong squad to choose from with every player fit.

A win would keep his side bottom of the league and back on zero points after losing three points because they were unable to field a team earlier in the season. Canterbury would stay top with a win, but will know that a draw or a loss would mean they could be overtaken by Essex University at the top of the table if they were to beat Universities at Medway.
