Young Addicks A Win Away From Group Stages

Mikhail Kennedy and Reeco Hackett-Fairchild both grabbed a brace for Charlton U23s to go second in their Group F table.

Mikhail Kennedy and Reeco Hackett-Fairchild both grabbed a double as Jason Euell’s side recorded an all important 5-2 win in their Group F Premier League Cup tie against Middlesbrough.

Both Euell’s youngsters struck after Anfernee Dijksteel levelled the scores for Charlton following Bradley Fewster’s first-minute opener for the visitors.

The Addicks are now one win away from qualifying for the next stage of the competition with only two games remaining.

Fire

Boro took the lead inside the first minute of the game when Fewster reacted quickly to a ball that was hooked from the top to fire Boro ahead.

Euell’s side didn’t seem too concerned and nearly levelled in the 16th minute when Kennedy shot from 20 yards, almost catching the Boro keeper unaware.

The Addicks finally got the breakthrough they deserved to level the game on the half-hour mark. Alfie Doughty’s corner was met by Dijksteel who hit it with his left foot to find the top left corner of the net and bring Charlton level.

The Addicks went in front a few minutes later courtesy of Kennedy. The Northern Irishman was quick to cut off a back pass to the Boro goalkeeper before rounding him and firing into an empty net in the 39th minute.

Pressure

Euell’s youngsters’ constant pressure after the break paid off. Kennedy added his second of the afternoon immediately after Fairchild’s quick-fire double.

Fairchild hit a left-foot thunderbolt strike into the top left corner of the Boro net on the 51 minutes, and his quick reaction saw him tapping in his second of the game a few minutes later after a Kennedy effort was saved.

The in-form Kennedy was on course  for his second of the afternoon in the 58th minute. He received and beautifully controlled a pass just at the edge of Boro box, turned and curled it into the top corner of the net.

Boro managed to pull one back on the 75th minute through a corner but it was too late for them. This thumping victory by the Addicks takes them to second of their Group F table, and just one win away from qualifying into the next stage of the competition.
