Jayce-Ebony Bell accuses Kanye West of breaking a promise.
Kanye West’s clothing line Yeezy, Season 2 seems to be trying to ‘get down’ with the street – by making the clothes look like you live on the streets!
Naturally there are no images available for free so I can’t show you what I mean, but go online and look for yourself. Kanye’s Season 2 is all about being baggy and full of holes.
Personally I think it’s immoral. Firstly using expensive materials to make clothes that look like they belong to a deprived person is unethical. And secondly, he once told his fans his aim was to be the “Robin Hood of Fashion” by bringing designer clothes into the reach of what he describes in an interview for Time magazine as “the masses”, the majority of people, whereas this line is very expensive.
The fact that he thinks he can charge as much as $400 for a hoodie shows that he has deserted his fan base and is clearly only interested in the rich kids now. The clues are in his lyrics. This line from his song Can’t Tell Me Nothing suggests he wants to turn his back on his past:
“I guess I should’ve forgot where I came from,” he sings, and with prices for his clothes like that, I think he already has! Elsewhere in the song he shows how much money means to him: “I had a dream I can buy my way to heaven. When I awoke, I spent that on a necklace.”
Kanye West is already worth 130 million dollars, and the way he’s broken his promise to make clothes affordable shows that he just wants to be worth more.
But what do the people think? I asked three of his fans from East London:
