Harris: Lions Must ‘Recover Quickly’

Coventry City’s 2-1 win over Millwall on Saturday dealt a blow to the Lions’ play-off hopes, writes Ollie Rudgewick.

Millwall manager Neil Harris was left frustrated after his side surrendered an early lead to Coventry City, who profited from the first-half sending off of Lions’ midfielder Shaun Williams.

Harris praised some his aspects of his side’s performance. He told Millwallfc.co.uk: “I felt even with ten men we were defending well and limiting their chances until they equalised with a wonder-strike.”

Harris also commented on the sending off, saying: “That was clearly the turning point and having had a brief look at the incident again I haven’t got any complaints.”

Byron Webster opened the scoring for Millwall after just 20 minutes, with a powerful header following a cross from Shane Ferguson.

But just eight minutes later, Williams saw red for appearing to head-butt Coventry playmaker Ruben Lameiras.

The red card changed the game, as John Fleck scored a stunning equaliser from range after the hour and Marcus Tudgay pounced with 20 minutes left on the clock to turn the result around at the Ricoh Arena.

The Lions drop to fifth in League One, but remain in the play-off places with just three points separating themselves and seventh-placed Barnsley with four games to play.

Millwall’s next game is at home to Fleetwood Town at The Den on Tuesday.

Asked about the run-in, Harris insisted: “We must recover quickly ready for another big game at The Den on Tuesday night.”
