The University of East London men’s 1st team head into the New Year aiming to continue the success of 2015, with UEL on track to win back to back league titles.

UEL Coach Yassin Abidou has stressed the importance of working hard before they return to action in February, after the winter break.

“The teams have come back from the winter break and looked good in training. Lots of match practise is needed over this period, so we have pushed our players in this way.” said Abidou.

Abidou also praised the squads for their efforts last year “2015 was a very good year for the club as a whole, with the 1st team league title win being at the very top.”

Amusing Abidou

“I’m looking forward to this year with the side, hopefully we can share more of the same success together as a squad.”

“It’s been a pleasure to get to know the new players that have joined at the start of the campaign.”

The 1st team are currently top of South East Division 1A, having suffered just one league defeat this season and are the in-form side winning their last seven matches in all competitions.

Abidou joked about the most important thing for his players to do after the Christmas break “Lose the Christmas weight.”

The UEL 3rds and 4ths restart their campaign this week with the 1sts and 2nds having an extra week’s rest to prepare for their title bid.

UEL 3rds will look to do the double, as they travel to the London Metropolitan University 2nds having previously defeating them 3-0 earlier in the season. Whereas the UEL 4ths entertain the University of Creative Arts 1sts.
