Genesis Futsal Club are preparing to take on London rivals London Helvecia in the FA Futsal Cup this Sunday at the Leyton Score Centre.

Looking to make amends for their crushing 13-1 defeat away to Salisbury FC at the weekend, Genesis will make the short trip to the Score Centre to take on their local rivals.

The hosts are one point off league leaders, Reading Escolla, whilst Genesis sit rock bottom of the table. Despite this Adam Barr the Genesis Captain can see plenty of reasons to believe that they can perform a cup upset this weekend.

Captain’s Hope

“Well it’s an FF Cup game so anything can happen. They are definitely the favourites, but we have put in some good performances recently against Birmingham, Cambridge and Reading. If we play like we did in those games, then who knows! Think the fact it’s a London derby and that we have players returning from injury means the team will be motivated for the challenge.”

Despite the vast differences in their league campaigns. Genesis’ form has picked up since the turn of the year, picking up seven of their eight points in their last six games. Barr puts this down to the hard work of club coaches Trever Tamatave and Manuel Sarmento, who took over from Codinha in December.

“I think the job that Nelo (Sarmento) and Trev (Tamatave) have been doing is fantastic. They’ve got us practicing the way we want to play in each game and have made sure that we train with intensity.

“We have also had the boost of players returning to the club, (Ivan) Dju, Claudio (Ribeiro) and Germano (Idanhe) are all important players that we’ve missed at times this season.”

Barr believes that a youthful Genesis side may have it in them to get a win against a Helvecia side the boasts a whole host of International stars.

Faith In The Youth

“The young players in our squad have developed so much in their first Super League season. Brandon (Hubbard), Sonny (White) and Liam (Hunt) look like future England players.

The captain is hoping there will be a good turnout this Sunday “We have a good, young side improving every week, but Helvecia have a lot of international experience so it will be a good one to come and watch.”
