Goodmayes-born Alex Lynn has been confirmed for Mahindra Racing in the 2020/21 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

Mahindra revealed their full driver line-up during their 2020/21 M7Electro car launch.

Lynn is replacing the outgoing Jerome D’Ambrosio after the latter retired from the sport to become the deputy team principal at Venturi Racing.

His new teammate Alexander Sims had already been confirmed by the team, earlier on in the year after leaving BMW – a team he had been with for the first three years of his Formula E career.

On And Off

Lynn has been in Formula E on and off since 2016 when he was confirmed to be part of Jaguar’s pre-season test at Donington Park.

He then landed the role of reserve driver for DS Virgin Racing in 2017 and gained his debut drive at the New York City E-Prix double header in July – filling in for José María López who had existing World Endurance Championship commitments. He impressed straight away, gaining pole for his first race, but then failed to finish in either of the two events.

For the 2017/18, Lynn finished 16th, in what was his first full season in the sport. Virgin weren’t impressed with his performance however and dropped him in favour of Robin Frijns.

Without a seat for 2018/19, Jaguar picked up Lynn at the halfway point in the season when their driver Nelson Piquet Jnr, left the team. Despite only starting half of the races, Lynn managed to finish 18th in the standings with 10 points. Yet again, his performances weren’t deemed good enough and he was subsequently dropped.

Starting The Partnership

Halfway through the 2019/20 season, Pascal Wehrlein left Mahindra with Lynn coming in to replace the German for the Berlin races, starting the partnership between driver and team.

Speaking during the Mahindra car launch, Lynn said: “I’m incredibly excited to be back for Season 7 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, and to be a part of Mahindra Racing.”

“I’ve had the opportunity of driving the M7Electro on numerous test days and we’re all pretty proud of what we’ve come up with.

“We won’t know our competitiveness fully until the lights go out in Santiago, but we are here to consistently fight for wins and podiums; that’s what the team go racing for and so do I.

“From that side I’m extremely excited and focused to be delivering the results that this hard-working team deserves.”
