Another Hit From ‘The DJ’ Secures Three Points For The O’s

Leyton Orient recorded a 1-0 away win against Tranmere as Danny Johnson’s second half strike ensured the O’s would go home with all three points.

Johnson eighth goal of the season came on the 70-minute mark after Craig Clay squared the ball back across the face of goal for Johnson to slot home and secure their first league win since the opening day of the season.

Ross Embleton’s side were the dominant team and deserved to win a tame encounter at Prenton Park. Tranmere barely got a look in in the first half as Orient had the better chances. Both Josh Coulson and Jobi McAnuff put efforts wide on the 20-minute mark.

Tranmere’s best chance would come soon after as Kaiyne Woolery’s attempt trickled past the post of Orient keeper Vigouroux.

Orient Dominance

The O’s continued to create openings going into the second half, Johnson found himself in a position where he seemingly could not miss but blazed over, after good work from Ouss Cissé left the striker with a clear sight of goal just five yards out.

The breakthrough did eventually come, and Clay’s good work left Johnson with an easy finish.

It’s an important win for Orient and they held out to secure the three points which pushes them up to 15th in the table.

Elated Embleton

Speaking to leytonorient.com after the game, O’s gaffer Embleton was happy with his players following a disappointing result against Walsall last week.

“Im so pleased for the boys because we were all very low and disappointed last week. We were disappointed that we were beat in a way that doesn’t reflect how we go about our business”.

Remarking on Conor Wilkinson, who was dropped for this game but came off the bench at the 68 minute mark, Embleton said “At the back end of last week’s game he looked a bit leggy but I’m pleased he’s come on and influenced the game in the way that he did”

Captain Jobi McAnuff was key in his sides win and his importance didn’t go unnoticed with the Orient manager.

“Its important Jobi is out there, whether that’s for the full 90 like today or whether it’s coming on late in games he has an impact on our team. He brings a calming influence and maturity”

The O’s will be looking to build on this result in their next fixture when they meet Stevenage at the Lamex Stadium on Saturday.
