Busy Schedule to Decide Charlton’s Season

There's still plenty to play for as Charlton look to end their recent run of bad form and finish their season with a bang, as Elliot Fletcher reports.

Charlton face a fixture pile-up in the concluding months of the League One season following their latest postponement against AFC Wimbledon this past weekend.

Fixtures up and down the United Kingdom were affected by the adverse weather conditions and this was no different for the south east London side as they looked to bounce back from a disappointing defeat to Shrewsbury.

Charlton boss Karl Robinson had previously hoped for their latest fixture to be played despite the damaging weather affecting pitches all across the country. Robinson’s hopes however were short lived, with their League One meeting with AFC Wimbledon becoming one of the many casualties.

Common Occurrence

Fixture postponement has been a recurring theme for Robinson and his team during the campaign as this is the FOURTH fixture to be postponed and later rearranged, adding to the pressures already prominent when finishing a football season.

Speaking to Charlton’s Valley Pass, Robinson acknowledged the difficulty of the task at hand but appeared to challenge his players to perform for the remainder of the season, saying: “We’ve got Shrewsbury away and Blackpool away on Tuesday nights and now we have to go to Wimbledon as well on a Tuesday night.

“It’s going to be a real hectic run-in but these players have to be ready for one of the most difficult run-ins in their careers in some ways. Physically and mentally we have to get ourselves ready.”

Quite the battle cry from Robinson and it’s not difficult to see why, Charlton’s season has been frequently disrupted by multiple postponements and off-the-field affairs including a potential takeover of the club.

Playoff Hopes

Charlton have managed to maintain some level of consistency throughout the campaign, finding themselves in 7th place, two points off the final play-off position with two games in hand over 6th place Plymouth.

The Addicks have a whopping 13 matches remaining this season but cannot look past their next opponent as they turn their attention to the upcoming trip the ABAX Stadium to face Peterborough United this weekend.

However, come the end of the season, Robinson will be hoping to add three more fixtures to Charlton’s schedule coming in the form of the playoffs as he aims to guide his side back into the Championship at the second time of asking.
