UEL Netballers are sitting top of their league coming in to their third match of the season.

BUCS Streak

Wins against UCL eights and King’s College London sixes gave the girls the best possible start. Their Opponents Canterbury threes sit mid table in third after a win against Imperial sevens (Medics) but a loss in their local derby against Kent leaves Canterbury chasing the leading pack.

Girl Power

Rising East was invited to the team’s practice on Monday. The team was voted Club of the Year in last year’s UEL Sports Award and as you walked in, you could see why.

It also shows why the team still remains unbeaten this season; they were enjoying playing the game of Netball.

As the next drill started you can hear the communication between the girls going forward and on defence, but you could also hear laughter and happiness which was so refreshing to hear.

Sport is all about passion and love about your favourite sport. This was shown in abundance with most of the players playing after training mainly because they are getting the opportunity to at UEL.

Implicating some of coach Bisi Owolabi’s tactics and building the trust and the comradeship, this will be needed if this team want to win a cup by the end of the season.

What Is Netball?

Netball is a fast-paced, non-contact, team sport that is played a lot in schools across the UK and it is named as one of the only females dominated sport.

Some of the basic rules of netball are there is seven positions Goalkeeper, Goal Defence, Wing Defence, Centre, Wing Attack, Goal Attack and Goal Shooter.

The player in possession has only three seconds on the ball and is not allowed to move with the ball.

The only way to score is to pass into the attacking semi-circle to either your Goal Attack or Goal Shooter who can try an attempt to score.

The offside rule is where a player steps into an area of the court which their position is not allowed to go to.

UEL VS Canterbury

Wednesday afternoon, Rising East will attend the match against Canterbury, and we will be looking forward for UEL to continue to remain undefeated. Captains Kyra Boyce and Toma Laureckyte will not be joining the team tomorrow as Tallie Meager will be the team’s captain for Wednesday’s match. Rising East wishes the women good luck!
