Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic East London Sport have been forced to cancel this year’s challenge cup.

The competition was due to take place on Wednesday 1st April with UEL being hosts to the event, but after discussions with opponents Anglia Ruskin, both universities decided cancelling the event was the best precaution with the rapidly evolving situation surrounding the virus.

“It’s A Great Shame”

This year Rower and Hockey player Paddy Wilkins was set to be one of the two captains for East London Sport.

“Being varsity captain was a great honour and very exciting to have another rower have the potential to lift the cup,” he said. “It’s a great shame that the uni have cancelled it but it’s done in the best interest, I know multiple rowing events have been cancelled across the country as well as a large amount of other sporting events as well, it’s a shame but there’s always next year”.

What Is Challenge Cup?

Each year UEL face off against Anglia Ruskin with all sports teams competing against each other for the challenge cup title.

UEL have won the previous two challenge cups, with Anglia Ruskin not having found success in the cup since 2017.
