Greg Morley reports as Charlton battle for their three points…

Neil Lennon lost in his second match as Bolton manager as goals from George Tucudean and Johnnie Jackson saw the Addicks scrape a 2-1 victory at The Valley on Tuesday evening.

In contrast to the away side’s misery, Charlton’s performance restored confidence for the team after seeing their 11-match unbeaten start to the season ended by Bournemouth at the weekend.

Despite the result, it was Bolton who controlled the match for long periods, and Lee Chung-yong stung the palms of Stephen Henderson in the early stages.

Jermaine Beckford was the next man to test the Charlton keeper, before the home side broke the deadlock with their first meaningful attack just before the half hour mark.

After Yoni Buyens picked the ball up in midfield, he was given the time to send a pinpoint pass through to Tucudean, who controlled well before firing past Andy Lonergan.

However, it was still the Trotters that continued to press and Dervite had a half chance with a header, with Beckford also threatening for a second time.

Into the second half, and another rare Charlton attack brought another goal. A lovely move down the right hand side by Buyens and Tucudean ended with the latter sliding Jackson through one on one. With just the keeper to beat, the skipper calmly sent a left footed shot into the back of the net.

Moxey responded immediately for Bolton though, sending a low effort into the bottom right corner, which set up a frantic finish.

Dervite once again had a chance with a header late in the game, but his former club held on for their second league win in seven, boosting them up to seventh in the Sky Bet Championship table. Bolton, meanwhile, still find themselves in the thick of the relegation zone.

CHARLTON: Henderson, Wilson, Ben Haim, Bikey, Wiggins, Bulot (Fox 79), Buyens, Jackson, Cousins, Moussa (Ahearne-Grant 86), Tucudean (Harriott 91).

BOLTON: Lonergan, McNaughton, Mills, Dervite, Moxey (Ream 81), Feeney, Spearing, Danns, Pratley (Clayton 81), Lee Chung-yong, Beckford.
