“Cladding Scandal” Protest At City Hall

One hundred and sixty two tower blocks in Tower Hamlets are considered so unsafe from fire that residents have to pay around £100 a month each to cover the cost of a ‘waking watch’ in which someone patrols the block 24-hours a day to check for fires.

This is just one of the shocking revelations shared with Rising East reporter Khadijat Akande in the film below.

In his recent budget Rishi Sunak promised an extra £5.1 billion to help solve what has come to be referred to as The Cladding Scandal – but the protestors who gathered outside City Hall at the weekend think that is nowhere near enough.
