Comedy In East London’s Own Backyard

I recently decided to go to the capital’s largest purpose-built comedy club, The Backyard Comedy Club, in Shoreditch East London.

Given the tough times we all are going through – the cost of living crisis etc.  –  my stressed, working-class uni student self needed a laugh. I meant to write ‘university’, but that just reminds me of the stressful part of study, whereas just “uni” sounds fun, doesn’t it?

Well, ironically me trying to escape cost of living misery left me spending loads of money.

It cost £8.25 to get in. And my overpriced Nachos with cheese (£7.50), and a glass of Pepsi with ice (£2.50) came to £10.  I don’t even like Pepsi that much, but it was the only soda drink they had. It also took me a minute or two to fit in with the middle aged, middle class , predominantly white audience.

So, if you’re in need of a good laugh, I highly recommend checking out the Backyard Comedy Club. It’s been in East London for over 20 years and they have gigs every Thursday and Saturday. “It’s dope”, as Dave Chappelle – one of the many big stars who have played there – would say.

Side note: if you are a broke uni student like me, go on Thursday, it’s cheaper. I spent £28.25 Lol.
