The second leg of the SCEFL Challenge Cup was set up to be a thrilling encounter with Corinthian after their previous 0-0 draw in the first tie.

Early Pressure

Fisher continued to apply pressure to the Corinthian defence and found themselves in a promising position as Rob Brown found an opportunity to put the Fish 1-0 up, however his effort went straight down the middle into the hands of Corinthian’s goalkeeper.

Corinthian’s best chance of the game came when a cross was kept alive by their forward line, who laid it off to Corinthian’s midfield, seeing the effort tipped onto the crossbar by Fisher number one Daniel Wheeler, showing great reflexes.

Corinthian were struggling to fashion any clear chances.

Edging closer to almost an hour into the game, Corinthian found themselves with a corner which was easily dealt with by the Fisher defence who looked to counter as they found themselves on the opposite side of the pitch, two on one against the Corinthians defence.

Corinthian Comeback

The 88th minute saw Corinthian fortunes turn around as Oscar Housego pulled a goal back back for Corinthian with a well taken free-kick with only two minutes of the regulation 90 to play, with stoppage time still to be added.

The Fisher faithful watch on under the lights in south London.

Jack Bath secured the comeback for Corinthian as he slotted the ball past Wheeler to send the game into extra time with an aggregate score of 2-2.

Extra time saw Corinthian start on the front foot pressing the Fisher defence; the game turned upside down when the referee awarded a free-kick for a supposed handball – a decision that didn’t go well with the home support.

Sam Bewick scored Corinthian’s second freekick of the night in the 99th minute to turn the tie on its head to comple the comeback.

Comeback Complete

The game produced very little chances after that with Fisher looking to attack Corinthian with every opportunity, but good defending kept Corinthian in the lead and one foot into the final.

A nail-biting end saw Fisher substitute Kushan Campbell-Palmer’s side footed effort go wide as Corinthians booked the place in the final of the SCEFL Challenge Cup.
