Dagenham & Redbridge had a strong start to their 2021/2022 season, the East London based football club won five of their first six matches until they were handed their first defeat of the season at the hands of the National League leaders Wrexham.

Whilst they appeared to bounce back after the defeat when they smashed Solihull Moors 5-1 at home, the Daggers ultimately went to lose five of their next seven fixtures including a 0-1 loss to Salford City in the FA Cup second round.

The Daggers have shown moments of brilliance throughout their season scoring four or more goals five times this season.

Individual Brilliance

Former West Ham, AFC Wimbledon, and Leyton Orient striker Paul McCallum proved to be Dagenham & Redbridge’s talisman as he scored 17 goals in 35 appearances, putting him amongst the top ten goalscorers in the league.

Despite McCallum’s ability to find the back of the net, Dagenham & Redbridge sit in eighth place, three points adrift of the playoff positions. Although mathematically the playoffs are still in reach, the Daggers will find it tough to overcome the league leaders Wrexham in their final game of the season as the Dragons look to secure promotion ahead of Stockport County.

Whilst the Daggers have made a vast improvement from finishing 12th last season, Dag & Red fans don’t seem optimistic about gaining promotion next season.

“I have supported Dagenham and Redbridge since I was a kid,” said Daggers fan Mitchell Diggines.

“I have loved every single minute of it, the wins especially.

“I do want to see the Daggers promoted but it surely won’t happen any time soon.”

The Dagenham & Redbridge manager Daryl McMahon believes that the team should be in the playoff spots.

“It’s the second-highest points and second-highest league position for the past 11 seasons,” said Mcmahon.

“We’re in a decent position but we should be higher for every reason, we haven’t been able to take it.”

McMahon and the Daggers will look to take the feeling of narrowly missing out on the playoff into next season to clinch a top seven spot in 2023.
