In what was a controversial move, the east London side swapped out their traditional Red and Blue shirts, which were supplied by Sondico, in favour of a new white home shirt made by global sports brand Nike for this season.

However, Executive Chairman, Peter B. Freund has announced at a recent Fan Forum event that the Club will definitely be reverting back to their usual colours for the 2020/21 season.

“The reality is, when we decided to make the move to Nike, it was to continue to elevate the profile of our Club and to grow our brand. We have Tim Howard as our partner and he’s a Nike athlete, we also have Nike out in Memphis.”

Brand Similarities

Freund’s company, Trinity Sports Holdings also owns Memphis 901, an American Soccer team in the state of Tennessee that have just completed their inaugural season in the USL Championships, finishing 15th in the Eastern Conference.

“Nike are not the easiest company to work with,” Freund states, “so we couldn’t have a bespoke custom jersey from them. We made a decision that was that their catalogue blue and red jersey just wasn’t great.

So, we decided to go with the white this year, and by the way, if and when we get promoted in the white shirt, all of you are going to want the white shirt to stay as the home kit next year!

However, with that being said, we are committed to bringing back the traditional colours next season,” he added.

Plans In Place

Freund’s right-hand man and fellow director, Craig Unger explained that conversations were already being had over in the United States with Nike about the custom kit for next season.

“I had discussions about the kit very recently in Denver, Colorado with Tim (Howard). It is in progress and we want it to be true and authentic to what the history is here, but it also has to be true enough to the colours.

That was the issue with the catalogue kit, the red and blue was not the right shade of colour. I think it would have been a much greater disservice choosing those colours, than going to white.”

The Daggers will be sporting their White Nike kit this weekend, as they welcome Wrexham to the Chigwell Construction Stadium on Saturday.
