Leyton Orient will be looking to recover from their first round F.A Cup defeat to Maldon and Tiptree as they take on Scunthorpe United this weekend in front of what is expected to be a bumper crowd at the Breyer Group Stadium.

Orient’s F.A Cup exit at the hands of eighth tier side Maldon and Tiptree was a massive blow to Head Coach Carl Fletcher, but this Saturday offers up the chance of the redemption as his side play host to a Scunthorpe outfit that haven’t won on the road in the league since January.

Despite their away woes, Paul Hurst’s side come into this game off the back of an impressive 3-0 home victory against Sunderland in the Leasing.com Trophy. The Iron are also unbeaten in their last three league matches following draws with Stevenage and Salford which preceded a 3-1 win over Exeter at Glanford Park.

Team News

Sam Ling returned from injury in the cup tie against Maldon and could retain his place this weekend. Orient will be hopeful that Conor Wilkinson will be fit to play some part after he picked up a knock a fortnight ago against Morecambe. Though this weekend is expected to come too soon for the return of Lee Angol and Jobi McAnuff.

Scunthorpe, meanwhile, have something of an injury crisis on their hands with up to eight first team players expected to miss out on the trip to London. Midfield is a particular problem for Hurst’s side with Yann Songo’o, Regan Slater, Levi Sutton and Jordan Hallam all sidelined.

Ones to Watch

Following their relegation from League One last season, the Iron still have a number of experienced names on their books. One of those is full-back James Perch, the former Newcastle defender has made 13 appearances in all competitions so far this season, scoring one goal.

Another player the O’s will have to be wary of on Saturday is Kevin van Veen. The Dutchman is a technically gifted centre-forward with an eye for goal. He currently has four league goals to his name in 11 appearances.

Coming to the Game?

The match takes place this Saturday at the Breyer Group Stadium, with kick off scheduled for 3pm. This is one of Orient’s football for a fiver fixtures, tickets are still on sale however they are limited in their availability.
