Greggs has opened its first London “Outlet” store offering day-old and cut-price favourites like sausage rolls to the people of Newham in a bid to fight poverty and waste.

Anyone near Victoria Docks and the Excel centre can visit Cundy Road and enjoy a four-pack of sausage rolls for just £1.55. The standard Greggs price is £1.25 each. So that’s four sausage rolls for just 30p more than one would normally cost!

And you won’t just save money – you’ll also help others. A share of Outlet store profits is used by The Greggs Foundation to help local communities and organisations tackling food poverty.

Greggs does not just use Outlet stores to avoid waste. It also donates unsold food to charities and offers huge discounts on unsold food using the Too Good To Go app where savvy shoppers can pick-up a “Magic Bag” containing a selection of whatever did not sell.

Greggs chief executive Roisin Currie said: “It’s important that we do our bit to put an end to food waste and help to tackle poverty, hunger, and deprivation across all the communities we operate in.”

A Newham resident who lives near the store told Rising East: “With the cost of living so high it would be so much cheaper buying a quick snack from Greggs while out shopping. What Greggs is doing is a good thing because even though Greggs is cheap already not everyone can afford it – and four sausage rolls for £1.55 is a bargain!”
