Flying Home For Christmas

A week before the UK was placed in tier 4, I was able to travel home for Christmas to visit my family. Two people were not allowed to board my plane because they did not have a negative COVID-19 test with them that was carried out less than 72 hours prior to the flight.

Once in Gran Canaria healthcare professionals asked anyone who could not show them a negative COVID-19 test to have a test before leaving the airport. This was the third time this year that I had travelled home, but only the first time that passengers were checked for COVID.

The population of Gran Canaria is 870,000. As of the day I posted my report, there were 1001 active cases on the island. The new requirement regarding tests aims to get these figures down.

The video above gives a glimpse into what it is like to live in Gran Canaria during a pandemic at Christmas time.
