From Rags To Riches With Hackney Rapper Rimzee

Ibraheem Iqbal reports on rapper Rimzee and his up and down career

Ricardo Miles, better known by his stage name Rimzee, is one of the biggest artists today in the UK rap scene.

With the recent release of his latest mixtape ‘Cold Feet’ this article will be looking at how the East London artist overcame the poverty-stricken estate that he grew up in Hackney – to becoming one of the most influential rappers today as well as an entrepreneur.

With his first ever freestyle being released on YouTube back in 2010, Rimzee isn’t a newcomer to music. However, a 6-and-a-half-year jail sentence back in 2013 caused a haul to his music career before it could really get going.

Being a product of his environment – Rimzee admitted to taking part in criminal activities in order to provide for himself.

‘At The End Of The Beginning’

But since his release in 2019, the Hackney born rapper has seemingly turned over a new leaf in his life.

He explained in an interview with Mixtape Madness that “I feel like, I’m at the end of the beginning. I don’t know if that time away has made me a better artist, but it’s just made me hungrier, innit?”

“Because like, I knew what I had and what I accomplished, then I lost it. Now I’ve got to get it back, do you know what I mean? That’s what hustlers and entrepreneurs do. They have the ability to lose something and get it back.”

Already well known for his debut mixtape, ‘The Upper Clapton Dream’ which was released in 2012, fans of the artist were hoping for a return to music and they weren’t disappointed.

With numerous singles receiving millions of views online, including tracks like “Go Time” and “Expensive Pain” but not only that – he has also become a successful businessman and property investor.

Rimzee’s rise from rags to riches can show many other young people who are going through the same situations he did growing up in East London – that you can achieve anything you set your mind to.

Using your experience from your past mistakes and using that to better your life just like what he did.

Now, he hopes to inspire other young people who come from the same communities in East London to do the same as him and to achieve their dreams in life although having a rough patch along the way.
