Golby: ‘We Didn’t Play Well’

Jordan Parsons hears Barking’s co-manager in critical mood after their shock defeat.

Barking joint-boss Glenn Golby has admitted that his team looked like “relegation candidates” rather than title hopefuls after their shock defeat to Greenhouse FC.

Golby was understandably frustrated with his team after seeing a commanding early lead fall away, and potentially losing an important three points in the race for the title. He was even critical of the period when his team were in the ascendency.

“We didn’t even play well in the opening seven minutes against Greenhouse” he said. “Sometimes when one or two are doing bad the rest can pull you through, but we had seven or eight below par – you can’t have that and expect to get a result.

“We didn’t deserve the 2-0 lead, but I hoped this would kick us on and start to play better, but sloppy defending allowed Greenhouse back in. It was a disappointing display, and we looked like we were near the bottom of the table rather than the top.”

Golby said the team only have themselves to blame after the shock defeat, “We contributed to our own downfall, with the quality in our side if we played to 65 or 70 percent of our potential, it could have been enough to win.”

This was the first defeat in three for Barking after they dropped more key points against FC Romania.
