Speaking to whufc.com after the game, Manuel Pellegrini described his team’s outstanding performance: “The biggest merit of the team was we never gave up and continued working.”

The first chance of the game came on eight minutes for the Irons. Felipe Anderson sent in a deep corner which Declan Rice put back in to the middle of the box.

Michail Antonio was on the end of the cross, but his header clipped the top of the crossbar.

On 15 minutes West Ham captain Mark Noble opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Manuel Lanzini was initially brought down in the area by Huddersfield debutant Aaron Rowe.

The Irons skipper calmly fired the ball down the middle of the goal to give the east London side the lead.

However, it only took two minutes for Huddersfield to bring the game level after Juninho Bacuna was left unmarked in the box and powered a header past Lukasz Fabianski.

Shock Lead

On the half hour mark the Terriers took the lead when a neatly worked free-kick found Karlan Grant who scuffed the ball past Fabianski.

A chorus of boos rang round the London Stadium at half-time, as the Irons faithful were more than displeased with their teams first half performance.

The second half didn’t start much better for the Hammers, as Grant got his second of the game with a great strike.

Grant turned past Issa Diop and fired a great shot in to the top corner of the West Ham net.

Fans started to leave the game at this point but missed out on a great end to the game.

Irons fans filled the London Stadium to see their side continue their unbeaten 2019 home record

Comeback Kids

Angelo Ogbonna began the West Ham comeback after the Italian defender was left unmarked in the Huddersfield box and headed the ball in to the ground to beat Jonas Lossl in the Terriers net.

Two of Pellegrini’s substitutes turned out to be the game changers for the Hammers.

Chicharito was introduced at half-time, while Samir Nasri was introduced on 60 minutes.

The two substitutes combined for the equalising goal on 84 minutes.

The former Arsenal and Manchester City midfielder put in a cross to the back post which reached Chicharito who pulled off a great diving header to bring the Irons level.

Last Minute Jubilation

Going in to injury time it looked like Huddersfield were settling for an equaliser, while the Irons were searching for a late winner.

Anderson earned a corner for West Ham which Aaron Cresswell played short to the Brazil international.

He played in a cross which Chicharito flicked goalward and beat Lossl to win the three points for the Irons.

The international break stops Premier League action for a while, but up next for the Irons is a home game against Everton on Saturday 30th March, as the Irons hunt down a seventh-place finish.
