Ole Saue previews the big match…

On Friday night, West Ham’s development squad will take on Manchester City’s youngsters at the Boleyn Ground.

The home side have only won two games in 2015, and are coming straight from a 1-2 home loss against Norwich last Friday, while the Blues beat Celtic in the quarter-finals of the International Champions Cup last Thursday.

After losing four games in a row in January and February, City are now back on a winning track, and have have only lost one game since 18th February.

The Hammers’ season can only be described as a nightmare as they’ve been struggling with injuries to key players and have only won three out of 18 matches, all coming on home ground.

However, during the last two weeks, they have seen the return of players like Dan Potts and Reece Burke, who both have been sidelined for a couple of weeks due to injuries.

Potts played the entire match against Norwich last week.

“It’s definitely been a long few months for me, so to get back out on the pitch was a good feeling,” Potts told West Ham TV. “I was disappointed with the way the
game turned out in the last 15 minutes, but personally I felt good.”

Steve Potts’ side are already relegated to Division 2, while City’s Elite Development Squad, managed by Patrick Vieira, are favourites to win the Premie League and ICC double this year, as they are only five points behind rivals Manchester United – with two fewer games played, and in the semi-finals for the ICC.

Team captain and life-long blue George Glendon is aiming for titles this year.

“If we can get something under our belts and win something, I think it’ll give the whole club a lift,” he told mcfc.co.uk.

“The club has invested so much in the brilliant new academy, if we win something it would mean a lot.

“We packed out the stadium for the first game at the Academy Stadium against Schalke and we turned in one of our best performances of the season, so if we can get a big crowd again it could make all the difference.”

The game is being played on Boleyn Ground, Friday 24th April, KO 19:00.
