Ilford Welcome West Essex

Ilford FC’s Essex Senior League campaign continues following their dramatic 4-3 defeat away at Sporting Bengal, with the visit of West Essex to Cricklefield Stadium on Wednesday night, In this first of five home games in a row in all competitions for The Foxes.

Bouncing Back?

Ilford come into this game on a run of 5 games without a win and urgently need to secure a good result. Adam Peek’s side need something to give their season a springboard, or else they risk caught up in a difficult relegation battle, after failing to win in the league since beating Redbridge 6-2, way back on the 9th September.

West Essex on the other hand are pushing for the playoffs, having strongly beaten lowly Enfield 5-1 at the weekend. A win for the team based in Dagenham could even see them rise as high as 3rd in the table.

Goal-Friendly

Wednesday’s match looks set to be a goal fest with both Ilford and West Essex teams that are used to seeing the ball in the back of the net this season – albeit perhaps for different reasons.

Ilford will be desperate to keep a clean sheet, having not done so yet this season. Peek’s side like to score goals and have regularly put two or three goals past opposition goalkeepers, but it is not enough when The Foxes’ defence concede at a faster rate, having shipped 20 goals in their seven league games so far, even with new signing Abdoulai Sarr in the side over the last three matches, he has failed to halt the Foxes issues at the back.

The defensive frailties will be a major concern to Ilford, as they face up against West Essex side that have themselves scored 20 goals in their eight league games so far this season. This includes last weekend’s 5-1 win over Enfield and a 6-0 win over Southend Manor. What West Essex need to find however is some consistency, they’ve so far been unable to string two wins together in all competitions. Ilford manager Adam Peek will be hoping they can catch West Essex on one of their off days.
