Like most of the country, the squad of Ilford Football Club have gone without football for the best part of a month now, due to the second national lockdown in the UK as part of the fight against the Coronavirus.

Good News

With news that outdoor, grassroots sport can resume from Saturday 5th December 2020, the Saturday closest to lockdown finishing, Ilford FC will be chomping at the bit to get back into competitive action.

Their last encounter before Lockdown 2 was a 4-1 First Round FA Vase win over FC Clacton to send them through to the Second Round Proper of the FA Vase for the First Time in nearly twenty years.

Frontman’s Thoughts

A man who was at the centre of that victory and all things good this season for Ilford was Yemi Adelani, the Foxes frontman bagged two of the four goals in the blistering second half against Clacton, taking his tally for the season to 10 goals in 13 Appearances.

Speaking ahead of the 2nd round tie, Adelani said, “We all have similar targets throughout the season and so far to achieve getting to the Second Round of the Vase is showing good signs of what the club is trying to achieve”.

The FA Vase has been a welcome distraction from the league for Ilford so far this season, beating Long Melford 5-2, Benfleet on penalties and FC Clacton 4-1 on the way to their 2nd Round tie against Hertfordshire side Colney Heath.

Not only does this competition give rest bite from the league, it offers such much needed prize money for clubs at Ilford’s level in a season that has been decimated by Covid-19.

With match attendance reduced significantly or non-existent this prize money will really help the club in the most difficult of seasons.

Nothing Changes

Ilford will just be looking to get back to business when the competition returns and as Adelani adds, “When we resume, it is business as normal, simple as”, for this hungry and young Ilford side.
