Dagenham & Redbridge slumped to a 2-0 defeat at Halifax Town in the National League on Saturday, with goals from Emmanuel Dieseruvwe and Jesse Debrah being enough for the hosts to take all 3 points.

Quiet Opening

The first half started with a good chance for the hosts, as Kian Spence had space to get a shot away, but his effort was straight at Elliot Justham in the Daggers goal.

The rest of the first period featured very little goalmouth action, with the two main talking points from the half being early substitutions made by Dagenham as a result of injuries.

Dagger’s top scorer Paul McCallum went down injured inside a quarter of an hour and had to be replaced by Junior Morias. Soon after, full back Sam Ling was also subbed out with an injury, Yoan Zouma coming on in his place.

With few real chances for either side created in the half, despite Halifax controlling the game and keeping possession, the teams went in at half time with the score still standing at 0-0.

Second Half Struggles

The second half started off much the same as the first, with little action in the game, up until the hosts took the lead in the 60th minute. Emmanuel Dieseruvwe got his head onto a beautiful delivery into the box from Jamie Cooke to put the Shaymen 1-0 up and net his 5th goal of the season.

The home side continued to limit the Daggers, who barely threatened at all in the game, then went on to seal the victory in injury time through Jesse Debrah’s first goal of the season. Debrah met a spectacular cross from Jack Senior, headed into the net, and sent the Halifax supporters home happy, as the game finished 2-0.

Poor Form

Dagenham are now winless in their last three games in the National League, with 2 draws and a loss, and their form will need to change if they want to force themselves into a play off position.

This loss pushes Dagenham down to 14th in the National League table, now 4 points below the play off places.

Next Up

Dagenham host 4th place Boreham Wood on Tuesday night in their next game. A win is very much needed for Daryl McMahon’s side to reignite their promotion hopes and change their bad run of form.

Boreham Wood will also be looking for a win in this game to keep their position in the play off places which is a spot they cannot afford to lose and they will also be inspired after an intense 1-1 draw with Wrexham in their last game.
