“It’s Been A Good Journey” – Ellie Eaton

Pierrette Simuene interviews UEL's skipper.

Ellie Eaton is the captain of the Netball 1st team at the University of East London. She is currently in her last year and studying the Sport, PE and Development course.

Ellie would love to see the team win the BUCS league this year in the division 8B league.  Netball has not been recognised as much at the University. As she has so much love for the sport achieving this will be a massive bonus for herself as a captain and the team. This will also be her final year playing for the University and she has worked really hard working alongside the team at training to help with techniques and skills for matches.

Simuene – Who is the most improved in the squad?

“I played netball in school for the school teams from age 8 and then I joined a club called Grangers Netball Club at age 10. In my school team at u14, u16 and u18 level we reached regionals every year for 5 years in a row but unfortunately never progressed to nationals. I then moved around a few different teams at the club and then stopped playing. Then I came to the University of East London at the age of nineteen.”

Simuene: How has your time on the team gone so far?

“If I go back to first year, it’s definitely been a rollercoaster as I got injured and then in March the league just got cut off and we did not finish our league”. This may have hindered her time here as she said that the team were playing really well and they couldn’t even continue their form into the second year due to the restrictions covid-19 brought. She continued – “obviously now as captain I’ve worked my way up in the netball club so it’s been good for me, from my perspective it’s been a good journey”.

Simuene: What do you expect for the rest of the season?

“I just want everyone to have fun and have a good time together if we win that’s definitely a bonus.”

Ellie has been described by her teammate Claudia, as an amazing captain, being very fair and direct when leading the Netball team this current season.

This is Eaton’s final season with the team and she remains in top spirits for the remaining games of the season with the playoffs right around the corner let’s hope that she can lead this team into victory seeing a trophy as her send off.
