Leading Lights of Soho Fashion

Jonathan Tagle goes backstage in Soho.

In early 2012, three brothers accidentally reinvented the bow tie. Now they are the international luxury fashion brand Velvsoir, specialising in luxury bow ties, pocket squares, ties and lapel braces – all handmade in London.

I got the opportunity to go backstage at their Autumn/Winter 2016 show in London’s first gallery devoted to art made out of light, Lights of Soho, which is currently showing work by the late, great neon light artist, Walthamstow-born Chris Bracey.

The neon skulls, cheeky slogans and bright lights cast just the right glow over the models, whose faces were decorated with triangles of metallic paint.

Featuring split tongue, rounded and diagonal ties, the Velsvoir collection explores what it means to be a modern gentleman in the fleeting world of the city.

As a photographer it was great to get to know the models and to have the opportunity to place them around the rooms in order to get the best shot.

In addition to the gallery of still photos (below), I made a short film which you can also see here.
