Charlton Athletic loanee Josh Davison scored his fifth goal in six games for Woking last night to continue his flying start to life with the National League side.

The 21-year-old headed home after 16-minutes as the Cards came from behind to claim all three points on the road at Dover Athletic with an emphatic 5-1 victory.

Deadly Davison

Davison has hit the ground running with the non-league outfit since joining last month on a loan deal until January.

It took the Addicks academy graduate just 44 minutes to open his Woking account as he beat Aldershot Town ‘keeper Mitch Walker with a left-footed strike during his side’s 2-1 victory in the final round of FA Cup qualification.

Since then, the centre-forward has bagged four goals in as many games in a goalscoring run which has seen the Cards climb into the play-off places.

Davison scored during successive 3-2 defeats at King’s Lynn and Gillingham before netting an 89th minute equaliser against Yeovil Town and then, most recently, scoring his fifth goal of the season at Dover Athletic.

Charlton Career

It was Davison’s prolific season with Enfield Town in the seventh tier of English football – a season which saw him net 22 goals in all competitions from 25 appearances – which alerted the Addicks to the former Peterborough United academy man, who was called in for a trial period in SE7.

The centre-forward then joined Charlton in October 2019 after impressing with five goals during his trial period with the U23s side, though it was not just his natural ability in front of goal which took the eye of Academy manager Steve Avory, but also the physical presence he can offer as a frontman.

The 21-year-old made nine appearances for Lee Bowyer’s side in the Championship last season, scoring his first Addicks goal against table-topping West Bromwich Albion in January when he headed home from inside the six-yard box after 28 minutes to cue ecstasy from The Valley faithful.

Before joining Woking, the Addicks youngster started in Papa John’s Trophy fixtures against Wimbledon and Brighton U21s.

A Decision To Make In January

There is no doubt that Davison is highly thought of in SE7 by both Charlton’s manager, Lee Bowyer, and the Director of Football, Steve Gallen, with the 21-year-old being rewarded with a new two-year deal in June with the option of a third year after his breakthrough season.

If the youngster can continue his red-hot form in front of goal of late then the centre-forward will certainly leave the Addicks with a decision to make come January when his loan deal at Woking expires.
