Late penalty sinks Daggers

Muhammed Mustaqim reports as a late goal does for Dagenham…

Liam Lawrence scored a 95th-minute penalty as Shrewsbury Town beat Dagenham & Redbridge 2-1 at Victoria Road.

A foul on Andy Mangan by Scott Doe saw the referee point to the spot and Lawrence was there to ignite the Shrews fans into raptures.

The Daggers took the lead in the first half after five minutes through Billy Bingham from Damian Batt’s cross; and could have doubled their lead minutes later after good build-up play between Jamie Cureton and Ade Yusuff but the latter shot wide.

Mangan, who came on for Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro, equalized with a stunning strike to level proceedings; and then that late penalty gave the visitors the points.

The second half had started badly for Shrewsbury when Jermaine Grandison was sent off for pulling back Ade Yusuff after he was through on goal.
