Leyton Orient were held to a 1-1 draw by League leaders Forest Green Rovers at Brisbane Road last night.

A real second half contest saw the points shared after Ruel Sotiriou’s equaliser cancelled out Matty Stevens opener, earning a third successive draw for Orient which drops them into 10th place.

Defensively Sound

A defensively sound performance from both teams meant the first half ended goalless.

Forest Green came closest to taking the lead in the 16 minute when Matt Stevens header was cleared off the line by Orient midfielder Hector Kyprianou following a Rovers corner.

Orient’s only real chance in the first half came after 31 minutes. Paul Smyth’s left footed half volley strike could only find the side netting following a long ball over the top of The Green’s backline from Orient keeper Lawrence Vigouroux.

Second Half Goals

The second half saw both teams spring into life and it was 68 minutes in when Forest Green took the lead. This time Matt Stevens was able to convert his header following Ben Stevenson’s corner.

However, Orient responded positively, and only eight minutes later they got their reward.

A Forest Green mix up just inside the Orient half left Dan Kemp open to thread a perfect pass through to Ruel Sotiriou who drilled his shot into the far corner.

Disappointing One Point

After the game O’s Assistant Manager Joe Gallen said that despite a draw against the league leaders, the team were “A bit disappointed with just a point tonight.”

Orient will be hoping they can secure all three points and pull themselves nearer the playoff hunt when they go up against a struggling Stevenage side on Saturday.
